Description
For sale is a very rare Miyata mountain bike frame made of titanium alloy tubes with APA bonded aluminum lugs. I believe this is an Elevation series bike, but I can’t find the exact one. Of the literature I have, the frame construction is mentioned in detail, but at the time, 1992, the frames listed were carbon over aluminum tubes with the aluminum APA bonded lugs. This would be the Elevation 7000 and 5000 frames.
The frame dimensions for 20.5″ top tube are listed as the following:
- 585mm top tube length
- 425mm rear center
- 71 degree head angle
- 355mm center of bottom bracket to center of top tube. ( 14″)
- frame weight 4lbs 11oz. super light.
The frame is clean and I have inspected it and it is straight and solid. The APA bonded aluminum lugs is NASA technology. Who doesn’t want a mountain bike with NASA tech??? The bonds are said to be twice as strong as brazing and bonding doesn’t effect titanium like inert gas welding. Miyata basically over built these frames. The bottom bracket threads are in good shape, no dents or anything unusual. The holes you see in the top tube were for cable guides (factory) and there is a clear serial number it has just been blurred out. The name on the head stock is as you see it in the pictures.
As a side note, These MTN bikes originally used Suntour XC components for the cranks and derailleur, sprockets, shifters, brakes and wheel hubs. They had solid front forks with a Rock Shock optional front end.
